Celebrations for Stewartstown Harps

Stewartstown Harps fans gathered to celebrate the opening of the new pavilion and state-of-the-art playing field facilities at Stewartstown Gaels.

Crowds attended as GAA President Christy Cooney formally opened the facilities and Fr Aloysius McCourt gave an official blessing.

With a packed weekend of football and events for all ages surrounding the opening, the club extended their thanks to those involved in the successful launch.

A club spokesman said: “First and foremost, the committee of the club for all their hard work both in the planning and the running of the whole weekend’s events.

“The club would like to especially thank Sport Northern Ireland for all their help and assistance and obviously without their help, this development would still only be a dream.

“We would like to thank them for their financial help, but also all the non- monetary help, support and guidance that they gave both before and throughout the development. Stewartstown Harps GAC will always be indebted to this superb organization which plays such an important role in sports development in Northern Ireland.

“We would like to thank all the members of Club na gClairseach. Even in tough financial times, the generosity and support from the local community has been fantastic and we now have state- of- the art club facilities of which we can all be so proud.”

He added: “We would like to especially thank all the volunteers who offered their time and services to help get the grounds looking as well as they did for the weekend. We would also like to thank all those who supervised or stewarded at any time over the weekend.

“A very special thanks has to be extended to all the guests who took part in the chat show on Friday night and also to those guests who took part in the official opening game on the Sunday. It was fitting that such great players of yesterday and today played on a pitch worthy of players of such high regard.”

“We would like to thank Fr Aloysius McCourt for the lovely mass on Thursday night in the marquee and also for his official blessing on Sunday. We are delighted that Fr McCourt shared this weekend with us.

“Special mention must go to those very illustrious guests who took time out of their busy schedules to join us for this special occasion: to Conleth Donnelly on behalf of our main funders, Sport Northern Ireland, Tyrone County board chairman Ciaran McLoughlin, Tyrone Ladies Chairman Mark Conway, Michael Hassan, treasurer of the Ulster Council and last but certainly not least GAA President Christy Cooney. It was a huge honour for all involved with Stewartstown Harps to welcome the GAA president to our club grounds.”
