Coalisland canal youth project to launch

A project to encourage young people to improve and maintain Coalisland canal is to be launched today.

The PLACE project will be launched between 3pm and 6pm at the Parochial Centre in the town.

It is hoped the scheme, supported by Ógras Youth Club, will give young people in the area ownership over maintaining the canal area.

A display board will also be designed for the canal as part of the project, with the assistance of architect Michael Herron.

Activities including a climbing tower, laser clay-pigeon shooting and a rodeo bull will take place to mark the launch.

A bungee run, a DJ and face painting will also be at the event, which has been organised by BEAM Creative Network.

The PLACE project has received funding from the European Regional Development Fund.
