Coalisland Special Olympics club officially registered

The Eagles Special Olympics Club in Coalisland has been officially registered as the North’s newest special needs club.

The group aims to help adults and children over the age of eight who have learning disabilities to become more involved in the world of sport by encouraging them to take part in weekly training sessions, with the hope of advancing to the Special Olympics.

The official registration with Special Olympics Ulster and Ireland means those involved will be able to compete in all Special Olympics events.

Paul Sweeney, sports officer and head coach for the club, said: “This is a wonderful achievement for all involved and everyone should take full credit for their hard work and endeavour.

“Eagles wouldn’t know where to start to begin thanking people so a major thank you to all who helped in anyway to reach this goal.”

The club will now aim towards raising sponsorship ahead of a launch night to celebrate the official recognition.
