Coalisland teenagers arrested over rape, threats to kill and GBH

Rape, threats to kill, assault and GBH are among the offences teenagers in Coalisland have been arrested for in the past few years, newly disclosed police records reveal.

Five young people in Coalisland, aged 14, 15, 16 and two of 19, were arrested by police for threatening to kill.

A suspect of 19 was arrested in the town over an alleged rape, while police arrested two people, aged 17 and 18, over two separate GBH offences.

And two 14-year-olds were arrested by police for taking a motor vehicle without authority.

Details of the arrests in Coalisland between 2009 and June of this year have been released by the PSNI following a freedom of information request submitted by Coalisland Post.

Among the arrests, one 14-year-old was lifted by police for possessing an offensive weapon in a public place, while a 15-year-old was arrested over a house burglary.

Two 18-year-olds and a young person of 19 were arrested for drugs possession. Police arrested the two 18-year-olds for possession of a class-B drug with intent to suplly, while the young person of 19 was arrested over the possession of a class-A drug.

A total of 83 young people between the ages of 12 and 19 in the Coalisland area have been arrested by police between 2009 and June this year.

Theft, burglary and robbery offences were the most common reasons for teenagers being arrested, with 16 arrests recorded.

Police arrested 11 teens in connection with criminal damage, while nine young people were arrested over assault and GBH offences.

One 12-year-old in the town was arrested for shoplifting.

A total of eight 14-year-olds and eight 15-year olds were arrested by police over the period, as well as 11 young people at the age of 16.

Police also arrested 23 young people aged 19 over the period, along with 20 young people at the age of 18, and 12 17-year-olds.
