Mayor: ‘Don’t cut Dungannon Hospital services’

Dungannon council Mayor Kenneth Reid has hit out at proposals to cut the opening hours of the Minor Injuries Unit at South Tyrone Hospital.

The South Tyrone Hospital Minor Injuries Unit, currently open between 9am and 9pm, could be cut by two hours in the evening.

The unit has provided minor injury treatment for patients for over five years, including minor cuts, sprains, bone injuries, bites, stings, burns and eye problems.

But at a meeting with the Chief Executive Officer of the Southern Health and Social Care Trust, Councillor Reid has stressed the importance of not reducing the service.

He said: “Council has recently, along with South Tyrone Hospital Forum, submitted a strong case for the continued service from 9am to 9pm for minor injuries and will continue lobbying to ensure this remains for the people of the Borough.”
