A teenager from Coalisland being treated for leukaemia has helped launch a cancer charity’s Christmas appeal.
Jarlath Nicholl helped promote Friends of the Cancer Centre’s Wish Upon A Star fundraiser.
It encourages people to donate in exchange for the opportunity to write their festive wishes on Christmas tree decorations.
Each gold-star decoration will be placed on the tree in the cancer centre at Belfast City Hospital.
Jarlath (18) was diagnosed with acute lymphocytic leukaemia earlier this year and is receiving treatment.
He along with many other cancer patients is facing the possibility of spending Christmas in the hospital.
The teenager said:
“My Christmas wish is to be at home on Christmas Day. I’m right in the middle of treatment at the moment and it is set to run into the New Year, but I’m still hoping that if everything goes okay that I’ll be allowed out to spend Christmas Day at home with my family.
“If not, I’ll still have all the family around me in hospital, as well as all the doctors and nurses on the ward who have been so good to me.”
Colleen Shaw, chief executive of Friends of the Cancer Centre, said:
“The Wish Upon a Star appeal is our way of bringing Christmas right into the heart of the cancer centre and giving people the opportunity to mark it in a unique and special way.”
