TIMBER! Mayor Kenneth Reid swaps chains of office for chainsaw in canal clean-up

The toughest thing Dungannon Mayor Kenneth Reid usually has to cut is a ribbon when attending one of his many photo calls across the borough.

But the Torrent councillor has moved to harder challenges, tearing through thick bark with a chainsaw as part of a clean-up operation along Coalisland Canal.

Councillor Reid dropped his mayoral chains of office and sharp suits as a he stepped out in work boots and a boiler outfit to help with the clean up on Saturday, February 25.

He was among a group of volunteers from the canal committee who stripped away overgrown branches and brambles at Mack’s Lock along the waterway.

Before and after pictures from award-winning wildlife photographer Plunket Scullion show the men worked hard to clear the area and reveal one of the canal’s best stone features.
