Car hijackers beat man with hammer in Coalisland

A man was beaten over the head with a hammer during a Christmas Eve car hijacking in Coalisland.

The victim was in his car at Lisnastrane Heights when four men got out of a van and broke his car windscreen with a hammer.

The men then hit him on the head and stole his car.

A short time later, a group of men smashed windows in a home at Killary Lane, off Mountjoy Road, escaping in a car similar to the one that was stolen.

The car was later found burned out.

The injured man was taken to hospital following the attack. His injury is not thought to be life threatening.

Police have appealed for information.
