St Joseph’s lose out to Cnoc Mhuire in U16 Vocational Schools championship

St.Joseph’s Coalisland 0-9 Cnoc Mhuire Granard 1-8

A SINGLE point has prevented the Coalisland U16 St Joseph’s squad from reaching the All-Ireland Vocational Schools final.

The Ulster champions lost out to Leinster winners Cnoc Mhuire, from Granard, Co Longford during a tight match on Saturday afternoon in Inniskeen, Co Monaghan.

The Coalisland side were stronger for most of the first half and surged into a 0-6 to 0-2 lead, with team captain Daryl Magee scoring three points and Daniel Lowe grabbing a brace.

But two points from Mattie Gorman and a goal from Ciaran Mallon saw the Longford champions lead 1-4 to 0-6 at half-time.

The St Joseph’s captain levelled the match with a quick free on the restart, but the Coalisland side were not able to move in front during the rest of the match.

David McGivney, Aidan McElligot and Mark Kieran all scored points for the Granard side. Magee responded for Coalisland, but it was the Leinster team who booked their place in the decider despite having McGivney sent off late on.
