Tension over Coalisland railway land
9th January 2012 | By: Coalisland Post | Comments Off on Tension over Coalisland railway landA row has erupted between Dungannon council and a Coalisland homeowner over an disused plot of railway land in the town.
Dungannon council want to purchase former railway land at Gortnaskea from the Department of Social Development.
But a neighbouring householder has used part of the land as a garden extension – and has refused to leave.
Councillors have ordered officers to continue to pursue possession of the vacant railway plot, despite the homeowner’s objections.
Dungannon council received a letter from solicitors Simmons Meglaughlin & Orr LLP about the land on December 6 last year.
Councillors ruled to pursue the land after discussing the issue at a Strategic Devolopment Committee meeting on December 12.
