Man charged over armed robbery bids in Coalisland and Brocagh

A 22-year-old man has been charged following two attempted armed robberies in Coalisland and Brocagh.

A man carrying a gun threatened staff at Annagher Service Station on the Annagher Road, Coalisland, but is believed to have been tackled to the ground by a passerby.

The incident happened 15 minutes after a man carrying a firearm entered a shop on Mountjoy Road, Brocagh. He stood in the shop for a few moments before leaving. Nothing was taken in either incident.

The man is expected to appear at Dungannon Magistrates’ Court on Monday, charged with robbery and possession of a firearm.

Two other men, aged 26 and 27, have been bailed pending further inquiries.

The incident in Coalisland happened on the afternoon of Saturday, October 8 at about 3pm.

It is believed a man wearing a motorcycle helmet entered the petrol station, but ran off after a staff member pressed the shop’s panic-alarm button.

As he left the store, the man was tackled to the ground and held until police arrived and made an arrest, it is understood.

PSNI officers and a police helicopter attended the store, and forensic teams examined the gun at the scene.

Business at Annagher Service Station resumed shortly after the incident.

Detectives in Dungannon have appealed for information.
