The Mind Your Mate programme will help equip participants with the skills to look out for each other and to look after their own personal mental health.
The free training event, aimed at young people aged between 16 and 24, will come to Coalisland’s Cornmill on Saturday, February 25 from 11am to 2pm, following dates in Pomeroy and Omagh.
Ógra Shinn Féin in Tyrone have teamed up with PIPS (Public Initiative for the Prevention of Suicide) to organise the three suicide prevention training programmes.
Barry McColgan, one of the organisers, said: “Suicide is the biggest killer of our young people, affecting absolutely every section of society; that makes suicide prevention something we all have a stake in.
“We all need to play our part in tackling this national epidemic, and training programmes like ‘Mind Your Mate’ empowers ordinary members of the community with the skills and confidence to tackle suicide.”
