Lineside supermarket developers bid to buy out objecting architects
22nd November 2011 | By: Coalisland Post | 16 Comments »The developers of the proposed Lineside supermarket have confirmed they intend to purchase a neighbouring architects’ building to create extra parking spaces for their plans.
Rossdale Developments Ltd director Vincent Donnelly confirmed to Coalisland Post the company has made an offer to buy Lineside House, the offices of Clarman Architects, following weeks of negotiation.
The company also plans to purchase other Lineside properties to add further car parking facilities to their proposals – with one householder understood to have already accepted a settlement.
Clarman Architects previously submitted a formal letter listing 21 objections to the planned supermarket development, saying the proposals could create a “serious hazard” in the town.
Mr Donnelly said he was now “100% confident” that the Newell Stores plans would be approved.
“Negotiations are ongoing for the past number of weeks,” said Mr Donnelly.
Speaking about the owners of some Lineside properties, he added: “We didn’t approach them – they approached us.”
The controversial plans to build a Newell Stores supermarket on the site of the disused Lineside egg store were sent back to the design stage earlier this month after the planning authority raised several concerns over the proposals.
Mr Donnelly said the new supermarket would “help the town greatly”, but admitted business for other smaller independent shops could be damaged.
“Nobody has come and said they don’t want a supermarket here,” he said.
“All the correspondence we are getting is saying that people want another supermarket.”
The divisive supermarket development was scrapped earlier this year following intense pressure from residents and community groups.
But the plans were scaled back and resubmitted for consideration on Thursday, September 15.
Homeowners in Mourne Crescent submitted objections to the new plans, revealing they have launched legal action against the developers.
Mr Donnelly said: “We had a bit of trouble from two particular residents in the Mourne Crescent area.
“Subsidence is a thing that happens – There was slippage in two gardens, which we rectified.”
A snapshot survey carried out by Coalisland Post suggested more than four in every five householders in the town are against plans to build a new supermarket at the Lineside.

can i just point out that the gardens in mourne crescent have not been rectified as mr donnelly quotes! also does mr donnelly not recall a protest walk down the line objecting to the supermarket and also the petition that many people have signed. does mr donnelly actually know what is going on?
Think he is living in a bubble! Any1 who you talk to about this supermarkets does NOT want it!! Coalisland has enough!!
why object to a supermarket? surely any new jobs is to be welcomed. Does any one else want to invest in the town? God people need to start supporting investment
perhaps coalisland post should visit the gardens and publish the phots and get mr donnelly to explain how they have rectified them???
on donnellys quote never have i met a person who thinks he can tell so many untruths and expect people to belive him ,700 letters of objection lodge with dungannon council, subsidence right along the lenth of 7 houses in mourne crescent, small problems?,bully boy tactics used on the good people of lineside to sell their homes ,left with no choice they had to sell after living there for near fifty years does the good people of coalisland want these kind of people in our town i dont think so .lies, lies is all we hear from donnely where is his partner in crime mr conway has he nothing to say
Do you have any contact details for some of the Mourne Crescent residents or Lineside residents to be able to back up these allegations? Feel free to email [email protected] with details.
i sent you an email brendan with contact details for one of the residents who is more that happy to show you the damage to the gardens. cant wait to see what vincent donnelly has to say when you show him the photos!!!!
would that be seamie from thepigeon post that put up the banner save our homes when he should have put up a banner saying excuse my dirty tip of a back garden thats been exposed to the town.the town is crying out for a decent supermarket and much needed jobs I say bring it on tidy up the lineside and maybe dirty seamie will tidy up his cess pit.
brian maybe you would come to mourne crescent and see my cess pit would really like to meet you or are you just going to mouth on here
MAIN STREET COALISLAND HAS BECAME A SMALL BUISNESS GHOST TOWN YEARS AGO WITH THE ARRIVAL OF OUR 2 EXCISTING SUPER MARKETS,SO WHATS THE PROBLEM WITH A THIRD , THE HARM HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE AND THE PROSPECT OF NEW JOBS IN THE AREA CAN ONLY BE A GOOD THING.THE PEOPLE OF MOURNE CRESCENT ARE ENTITLED TO GET THEIR GARDENS SORTED AND NOW THAT THE PARKING PROBLEM HAS BEEN SOLVED AND WITH NO INTRUSION ON THE CANAL, THE SAVE THE CANAL GROUP HAVE HAD THEIR GRIEVANCES ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM SEEMS SORTED, MAYBEE IVE MISSED SOMETHING BUT ID RATHER LOOK AT A NEW SUPERMARKET THAN THE BUILDING SITE THAT NOW OCCUPIES THE SITE .
brian open your eyes no new jobs just moveing staff from the two supermarkets allready here.look at mr donnellys last enterprise in the town, cannings butchers shop i think it tell it all about mr donnelly another eyesore left bt him.
so no one does anything then. that would really help the town. we need more people to do nothing in Coalisland.
I believe that the Developer will soon submit some very exciting proposals for the former egg store site. Anything is better than whats there at present. I do think that new jobs will be created above those lost from the existing shops. It may just raise standards. Yes the gardens at Mourne Cresent need to be sorted but using this and the Disused canal issue as an excuse to prevent investment is just wrong. This canal or should I say “ditch”, since the Department filled it in years ago, has prevented investment even though anyone with a morsel of wit knows it will never be re-opened. Who is going to grant aid in excess of 10 million so a very small number of tiny boats can sale up the 4 miles from lough Neagh to visit our new modern town centre portaloo, get thier boat vandalised and then sale back never to return.
wise up you backward thinking moron you pay taxes you abide by the law YOUR council is responible for your town yes if we did not have a council i would supoort a supermarket but we do have a council so whay support it. also do u know what solidarity is … you stick together..no the supermarket does not affect you THAT is ehy u aint bothered BUT what happens when something does WHO do u call THE A TEAM….THE TERM INVESTMENT relates to a return to the person investing whT DO THE PEOPLE OF COALISLAND REALYY GET IN RETURN.. SO GET OF UR HIGH HORE AND get the coucil to do something pssed of / brian take of the blinkers and see the bigger picyture
have to agree with you kk and maybe god willing the new developement will encourage other people to invest in our town and provide much needed employment.I was one of the objectors to the filling in of the canal some years ago but I now know it was only a personal crusade to try and keep it open by certain councilors with no job creation for anyone from the town,I also agree the mourne crescent gardens need to be sorted for the residents and the developer should be held responsible and the portaloo I think should be moved to a more convienient site in the town away from where these louts can get at it.as for you mr seamie do you think you are the only person who should be allowed to mouth on here.as for pissed of I am on benefits because i cant get full time employment and i know what solidarity is its everyone standing together for the good of a common cause.investment in whatever form it comes has to be welcomed for the future especially our young school leavers.
what are these new plans as lodged with planning service? has anyone seen them? I hear that the whole of lineside is brought into them.
